Love Me Tender
Carolyn had asked a question about the tender/dinghy comparing it to a golfcart. Very astute and an excellent analogy. Roe is the name of our tender. Yup, really, we did that.Roe is a Highfield aluminum-hulled RIB model Sport 390 with a 60HP Tohatsu engine. I've got a navigation package on her so we can look at charts and depth. This what I used to map the "rock" at Foggy Bay, I wrote about. I drove Roe back and forth over and around the rock to get its exact position and depth. I then added the rock to the chart.
When not in use, we lift Roe up and store her on the boat deck, behind the flybridge. A lot of people tow their tender. I do not; I think this is a weak practice for many reasons. Towing the tender reduces my speed by about 3/4kt, decreases fuel efficiency, puts strain on the deck hardware on blue Redd and Roe, and in sloppy seas, we run the risk of flipping or swamping Roe. So, we store her up on the boatdeck. We have a crane (called a davit on a boat) that can easily lift Roe and she only takes minutes to store.

Keep those questions coming and I'll do my best to answer them.
