Adventures on Blue Redd

  On the outside around Spider Island.   Behind us is the North Pacific. We departed Shearwater (you can see it in the background, behind Karen) right on time at just past 1130hrs (11:30am). In this photo, Karen just finished putting all the lines and fenders away while I was driving (and taking this picture...). We head west in the channel that T-bones into Bella Bella then we turn left (south) down Lama Passage continuing our southward migration. When Bill departed, he took the sun with him.   Now we are back to the standard Alaska weather trifecta of Overcast, Fog, and Rain. As we turn into Hunter Channel the rain stops!   Yes! We briefly checkout Hart Island Anchorage, but find the bottom too rocky and not suitable for anchoring.  So, we move on. Hunter Channel ends and we then veer left again into Sans Peur Passage.   If you are up on your French, you will know that means "Without Fear" Passage. The channel is lined with rocks, but ...

  On the Seabus ferry between Shearwater and Bella Bella.  The marina where our boat is docked is in Shearwater.   The airport from whence Bill & Nicki are departing is in Bella Bella.  Only 3 miles separate these two places. Silliness abounds as Bill takes a selfie of us all while I am doing the same. Still on the Seabus. And our Seabus Driver, expertly navigating us from dock to dock. The Seabus at the dock in Bella Bella.  There isn't really a protected marina here and the docks are quite open to the channel.   Hence most of the boats are over in Shearwater where there is quite a nice well-protected marina. You tell it was a slow news day as the Seabus was our sole excitement for the day. A couple of local denizens (sea lions) watched us as we slowly motor on by, between Bella Bella and Shearwater, BC. Underway and southwest bound in Mathiesen Channel. Yumm!   Mex breakfast.  2 fried eggs in chipotle and cumin seasoning, chorizo, refried black beans, cherry tomatoes, cheese, tomatillo salsa, with bacon and love.   Does it get better than this?   I don't think so! Oh, wait - it does.   A fresh cinnamon roll, courtesy of Nicki.   I swear I've added at least an inch and 4lbs to my girth and weight this week! In Reid Passage, the fog set in pretty thick. And then it cleared up.   Don't hit that rock! Which way do I go?  The channel is on this side of the marker (above), the other side is only 4' deep.  Hmmm. Nicki & Bill, watching from the flybridge. At least for a short while, until abandoned by Nicki, Bill succumbed...  Sun, warmth, the flybridge = naptime. Unfortunately, this was courteous...
