Pre-Blog Catch-Up from Tue June 18, 2024

OK a number of you have asked me to capture the earlier texts I'd sent into this new blog.   So, ask and ye shall receive!


Two days ago when we were in Poet's Cove, we averted a near disaster when my trusty coffee grinder died!   But alas, yesterday in Campbell River we secured a new coffee grinder.   Whew, that could have been bad!














Today's adventure began at 0500 as we were preparing to get underway (but not left the dock) and discovered I had no bow thruster...   Diagnosed it to a charging problem.   My bow thruster battery bank is dead at 21v (should be 26-27v).   Not sure about the charging of the stern thruster battery bank as I don't use it as much).

In working with my electrician/friend we are looking to add another charger to the system to resolve this issue.   If we combine the AGM batteries with the Lithium bank we could charge, but that's would damage the system - not good.

The new challenge is that there are no suitable chargers available in stock in Campbell River.   We may need to wait a few days...   So, we aren't going anywhere yet.

Gotta love boats.

And what we did or didn't do about it... Kabola furnace ship hot water loop, inop. ·        We never did find the fix for this.    Costica (Kabola genius) was aboard to help diagnose while we were still in Anacortes. Windlass ·        Turned out to be the breaker (Doh!).    Just closed the breaker and voi-la!    It worked. In Foggy Bay, Alaska

We are experimenting with Blogger.   Please be patient and we welcome all well-intentioned advice. This morning at 0742, we departed Prince Rupert, BC (see pic on right) for Brundige Inlet, BC, but after a few hours of motoring NNW, the weather was so favorable in Dixon Entrance that we decided to continue on to Foggy Bay, Alaska.   We cleared US Customs while underway via CBPRoam without any issues.   We snaked into the inner bay and dropped the hook at 1422.   And Foggy Bay is aptly named; visibility is about 1/2 mile as verified by radar. Foggy Bay has a super tight tricky entrance to the inner bay.   Beware the known uncharted rock just south of the islet as you enter the inner channel (I added it to our charts, see pic below).  After a scary bit of steering to avoid what I thought were rocky shoals along the east side of the west islands, we are at last anchored in the inner bay; 35’ deep with 115’ of chain out; safe and snug.   The “rocky shoals”...
