Pre-Blog Catch-Up from Wed June 26, 2024

At the dock in Shearwater, BC.

Tomorrow is a short 45-mile run up to Bottleneck Inlet.   These fjords are so deep that it is really challenging to find a suitable anchorage.

Most of these fjords are 1,000's of feet deep right to the walls and no place to drop the hook.   I like to find places under 100' deep, and there aren't many!   Even when it's 100' deep, I still need to let out about 400' of anchor chain.   It takes a long time to haul that back in.   Not to mention it is really heavy! My preference is for 30’-40’ deep.   That equates to about 120’ of chain out.   Much easier than anchoring in 100’ of water.

So, Bottleneck Cove it is tomorrow.
