Ketchikan Redux

Shoalwater Pass last night, courtesy of Karen.

This morning, we were down to 41% on the batteries, no water in the forward (big) water tank, and 3/4 in the aft (small) water tank.   No problem, but time to get to Ketchikan and fix a few of these items.

We departed about 0800 and headed to Ketchikan.   No spectacular wildlife today, but we did see some pretty scenery.

We pulled into the Petro Marine fuel dock at the south end of Ketchikan and added 1056 gallons of diesel to top off our tanks.  That will be the end of buying diesel until we return to Anacortes in the Fall.  Good news is that it was only $3.79/gallon, plus $0.36/gallon in taxes.   Bad news is that I can still do math and that adds up to be a lot!

We passed a couple of hovercraft that emerged from behind the cruise ship terminal in downtown Ketchikan.  Interesting vehicles.  They can travel at high speeds over land, water, marsh, whatever as long as it is relatively flat.  They can go up minor grades, but that's not their strong suit.

Once in Ketchikan we were again assigned to Bar Harbor South, Pier 9, slip 24.  We've had slips 1, 10, & 32 on this same pier this summer.  It is very convenient as we can walk to the hardware store, grocery store, marine supply store, and a few restaurants.

I continued troubleshooting my generator.  I get 25.74 volts to the starter motor and the same to the starter solenoid.  I suspect the solenoid is dead.  The starter motor & solenoid are in the picture (left).   On Monday, Jamie Painter (recommended by Dave Miller from Wrangell) will come down troubleshoot and, hopefully, repair it.

After topping off the water tanks, we did loads and loads of laundry, then took out the trash and went out for dinner.  Do I know how to show people a good time or what?   Back to the Authentic Mexican, Italian, & BBQ place.   Not bad.   It was more Mex for me.
