New Day, Same Bear
It was clear and sunny this morning. It looked great, and then I went outside. It was blowing about 25 knots through the anchorage with whitecaps in the channel. The current was running north and the wind was blowing south. This combination of opposed wind & current makes for nasty, tall, short period waves. At 0930, I had to run Kippy & Dean over to the airport in our little tender, Roe. It's pretty cool when the airport has a dinghy dock.
The southbound return ride to the boat was a bit better, except that one of the life jackets blew overboard as I was crossing the channel. And of course, there was a cruise ship coming down the channel about a 1/4-mile away. A few expletives later, I did a quick 180, retrieved the life jacket, and resumed my course back to the slip.
While we were awaiting Ross' plane, I decided to tackle a few chores. I cleaned the interior of the boat, we did laundry, made shopping lists, and I unsuccessfully attempted to repair the forward sump. After playing with it a bit, cutting it apart and testing things, I have determined that the problem is not in the sump, but in the power supply to it. And at this point, I punt. I'll add it to the list of things to get some professional help with when we haul in Wrangell next week. This afternoon, the current in the channel had switched direction, so the wind and current were both southward; the waves calmed down. It was still windy, but relatively flat. Karen & I scooted across the channel this time to pick up Ross. Yea, we have my oldest son aboard.
We took my son to the red-light district. Does that make us bad parents? And we saw a bear in the same area as yesterday - probably the same bear. Regardless, that's 2 bears in two days.
Then we saw an eagle swoop in and nab a fish. He then unceremoniously dragged the fish around a bit before settling in for lunch. For dinner, we went to the Ocean View Restaurant, which is an authentic Mexican, Italian, & Burger Place. Very weird, but good food and I ate too much.
On the way back to the boat, we stopped at the local Safeway and restocked; after all, Ross is aboard!

Nice!!! Your bear call is working! Hi to Ross!
