Not Entirely Kluless

We didn't have to go anywhere today.   A beautiful relaxing sunny warm morning in Marguerite Bay.  A breakfast of chili & eggs with 1/2 of a walnut cinnamon roll and I'm off to a great start.

Karen & I read and caught-up on email on the aft deck while Ross slept in.

We watched a series of float planes bring in new guests and take the old ones back to Ketchikan.   We had our first experience in a float plan last year and I highly recommend it.   It's a bit loud in the plane, but very cool.  They fly pretty low, so the views are awesome.

Beware the glare over Marguerite Bay...

About noon we all decided to try out a new place, Klu Bay.   So, we picked-up the anchor and set off on a 20-mile cruise (about 3 hours...).   Klu Bay is further up the north end of Behm Canal.   If you read my earlier posts, it is across Behm Canal from Yes Bay, where we anchored for a few days with Bill & Nicki aboard.

Wow, what a beautiful place.   Two waterfalls greet us as we enter the bay.
The bay itself is well protected being completely surrounded by mountains with a narrow entrance right by these two waterfalls.

Its biggest drawbacks are 1), its fairly deep at over 100' in most places and 2), it was used as a log booming area which means there are likely old logging debris, equipment, cables, chains, etc. on the bottom.   So, we anchored at the opposite end of the bay from where this activity took place.   I don't want to risk snagging my anchor on that stuff.

Ross and I went fishing in Roe.   I drove while Ross fished.  We could see fish, but we just couldn't catch any of them.

No fish on the hook meant BBQ ribs for dinner.   And that was accompanied by mac & cheese, corn on the cob, and an arugula/sun-dried tomato salad.   Very nice.   I paired this with a 2103 Soquel Vinyards Intreccio which is a Bordeaux-style blend.    Peter Bargetto was the winemaker and he is extraordinarily talented and an all-around great human being.  If you ever find yourself in the Santa Cruz Mountain area, you would do well to seek out Soquel Vineyards.

Here are a few evening pictures we took while touring about in Roe.

The Perseid Meteor Shower is supposed to be going full-tilt tonight, actually tomorrow between 0100-0400 (1:00am-4:00am).   Maybe in tomorrow's blog, I'll have some pictures to share.

Good night for now...
