Rain, Rain, Go Away
Yesterday, it rained and blew all day long. So, we essentially did almost nothing, with one very important exception.
Jamie Painter and his apprentice, Dawson, from SE Alaska Diesel came out and they repaired my generator (it was a relay that had come unseated) and we changed the main engine oil, oil filters, fuel filters, and checked the external Racor fuel filters. I now know how to do this service. I sure hope I remember how next summer!
All-in, I was lucky on the generator, that it turned out to just be the relay, that was essentially a free fix.
Other than that, we sat on the boat and read all day. There were no photos taken, therefore, no electrons even mildly excited - just like the rest of us.
Today was a much nicer day. While still rainy, the wind had died down to only three knots - almost nothing.Morning business meetings dominated my schedule. We decided to head downtown to catch the bus out to Ward Cove. We waited at the downtown bus stop for quite a long while and gave up on the bus, on to Plan B.
Lunch at the Cape Fox Lodge which is perched on the bluff above Ketchikan with expansive views to the south and west.
We hiked up the steps (maybe 200 or so) to the lodge and were faced with the reality that the cruising life doesn't lend itself to benefiting one's aerobic condition.
As it was near high tide, the water level was up quite a bit. And we saw a large translucent jelly fish slowly swimming upstream (sorry, no picture of that). Ross & I speculated that the saltwater being denser must be flowing in and below the fresh water that was flowing downstream. The jelly fish must have been riding the incoming saltwater tide to make it this far upstream.
