Shearwater or Bust!

This morning, we departed a peaceful, tranquil, quiet bay.   The water was like a mirror, without ripples or any sign of movement.   Fortunately, that is almost exactly the weather and conditions we had all day.  Yea!   Just a touch of fog out in Mathiesen Channel.

Anchors up at 0711 and we are underway to Shearwater.   As you may recall, we tried to get to Shearwater yesterday to no avail.

Today, we motored down the peaceful Mathiesen Channel.  Look at how flat that water appears, not even a wind ripple.  Perfect!

Then we were out in Milbanke Sound.   We rounded the corner and continued up Seaforth Channel.   All under near ideal conditions.   What a difference a day makes.

Yesterday, it was blowing 40 knots with 8' seas on a 3 sec period, with heavy fog and rain and today it was the opposite, blowing 4 knots with 3' seas on an 8 sec period, no fog and no rain.

This lighthouse is at Robb Point off of Ivory Island, in the Lady Douglas - Don Peninsula Conservancy in Milbanke Sound.

We pulled into Shearwater about noon, right on schedule.  Shearwater is at the confluence of a number of canals and channels near the coast, but inland enough to be well protected, and a very convenient stop when transiting the Inside Passage.   It is reported to be the only place with a functioning full-service marina between Campbell River and Prince Rupert.
A few years ago, the town was turned over to the local native peoples and they have been maintaining and upgrading it nicely.   While not fancy, it is clean and very serviceable.

It has a lot of linear dock space and all the appreciated amenities that any boater would enjoy.

The restaurant was unfortunately closed on Tuesdays, so I couldn't experience that.   But I did manage a nice grilled ham & cheese sandwich and coffee for lunch at the local coffee shop.

While lunching, this helicopter came in.   I guess Shearwater takes in all types as they also have a full airport just around the bay.

The afternoon was consumed by planning, laundry, napping, filling the water tanks, and general cleaning.   Boy, do we know how to live the good life, but this is reality.

Have you ever seen any movie stars do laundry, clean house, nap, do household chores, etc. in their movies?   To be human, they must do that, but all you see is them playing and living the good life.
Tonight, we had Korean Shredded Kalbi Steak with asparagus over jasmine rice.   This was accompanied by a lovely 2013 Frank Family Cabernet Sauvignon (Thank you Erik for turning me on to this winery).

Tomorrow, we head all of 22 miles to Ocean Falls in the area known as the Fjordlands.   With a name like that, how could we not go there?!
