There's a fly in my Anchorage
Thoms Place was beautiful, with only one exception - horseflies (or whatever they call them up here). These big files are a genuine nuisance. Like all horseflies, they are big and bite, though they do no actual damage. Regardless, I'm delighted to be moving on.
This dude hung on for quite a while, but I eventually got him. Yesterday, Ross, the terrorizer of flies everywhere, killed ten of these suckers...
I finished my early meetings just before we entered Wrangell at 2:00pm-ish. To the left is a picture of Wrangell as we approached up Zimovia Channel from the south.
We called ahead and got a slip assignment back in Heritage Harbor where we were a week ago.
When we pulled in, we found Marzee (Scott & Annies Hayes) still here where we left them. He had ordered a part, (4$ O-ring) nine days ago by overnight delivery - it arrived by air this afternoon. So, we got together on our boat this evening and celebrated.
But before the celebration, we went for a hike to the Fisherman's memorial, cemetery, & park, just south of our marina. Statistically speaking, the fishermen of Wrangell have it much better than the fishermen of Prince Rupert. The wall of names in Prince Rupert went on for hundreds of feet and maybe a thousand names. In Wrangell their wall holds only 50-75 names (though there is room for lots more).
On to the park, and then back to the boat to prep for our celebration/party.How to tell when you are in Alaska? When the locals go swimming in the 50-degree water because the sun came out.
Brrrrr!
Never mind the goofy guy in the picture, he had cracked himself up...
