Friends in Near Places
Yesterday, we spent the morning getting some of our vaccinations in preparation for our next adventure through the Panama Canal. Then we spent the rest of the day with Paul & Jenell, touring their neighborhood as there was an Art Walk going on. We saw, watercolor, glass, marquetry, and acrylic based art, some of which was quite nice. We ended the evening over a lovely Italian dinner at Nick's Grotto. It is so enjoyable to hang out with people and have real, genuine, adult conversations about the challenges of families (kids and parents), life in general, and of course, politics.
After dinner, Karen & I walked back to the boat from downtown Port Townsend as we needed the exercise to work off dinner.
All of that and we ended up with no pictures! How did that happen???
This morning, we were going to go out for breakfast a the highly regarded cafe in the marina, but we decided to just make breakfast aboard.
We departed just after 1020 for our next destination, Poulsbo, 38 miles away. Here are a few pictures of Port Townsend from the bay as we were heading south. We passed through the Port Townsend Canal which bisects the Kitsap Peninsula and Indian Island. It is straight as an arrow, but only 7 feet deep. The currents rip through here. Today was fairly mild as we only faced a 4-knot foul current. The trip down Admiralty Inlet was flat, windless, and quite peaceful. This picture is of Point No Point. What a great name, eh?
The next narrow channel was Agate Passage between Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Peninsula. This time we had a favorable current of 3-knots as we hit 9.7-knots through there. Sweet!Poulsbo is a very quaint town that has embraced its fabricated Norwegian heritage. Regardless, we love Poulsbo. The people, restaurants, shopping, and marina facilities are all excellent. We got back to the boat and found that the currents/winds had pushed a couple of boats too close to us for comfort. So, we picked-up the anchor and moved a few hundred yards away and anchored again. No problem.
Tomorrow, we move on to Everett to meet with other friends. And we are looking forward to seeing them!
Here's a picture of the Poulsbo waterfront tonight.
