A Potentially Exciting Day
This morning a beautiful Lord Nelson 49 Tug came into the slip one over from us. Total pandemonium ensued. They got sideways in the slip and hit the dock finger our boat is tied to. Fortunately, no damage to us or them. After some scrambling around they got it into the slip and shut down.
Note: if you crave excitement, just go and sit by some boat ramp and watch the chaos that ensues. It's never-ending fun/panic, tears/laughter, amazement/awe...
Like almost any situation, there is a story, and the story really matters. The people driving the boat took over as an emergency situation arose with the owners. The owners are a husband/wife team that had to jam back to the East Coast to deal with a parental medical emergency, leaving their friends in charge of their boat. Ahhh, see... All is forgiven as we were all newbies and novices at one point. Kudos to the people now driving the boat for their support and getting the boat back to the marina.
Clearly, we are in Ketchikan (note the big sign behind us). This is the downtown, tourist area.We met a really cool guy named Marc, who was substituting for his son today. His son runs a tour guide/van from the port area and caters to passengers from the ship. Marc is a retired surgeon and a wealth of knowledge and an all-around good guy. We chatted for quite a while.
Rather than come to Ketchikan and shop, you might consider a tour such as offered by independent tour guides like Marc's son. Booking them independent of the cruise line can also save you 30%-50%.
Wildview's tours are all about nature, wildlife, and scenery, not touristy stuff.
We liked Marc so much that we invited he and his wife Tammy over to the boat, but alas, he'd picked up a tour and couldn't make it.
Tonight's dinner was salad and leftovers. I had the remnants of my Indian Butter Tandoori Chicken (from Prince Rupert) and Karen had the Thai Curry Chicken that we had a few nights ago.
We paired the food with a big Cab Sauv from Long Cellars. You all are missing out, if you aren't familiar with their wines. Just say'in... You heard it here first...
Ttttthhaaaaattt's Aaaalllll Folkkkks!
