Cape Caution - Conquered

I'm happy to report that we rounded Cape Caution with nary a splash.

Both Windy & PredictWind forecast 6-8knots of with from the NE and 3' sea swells from the West - and that is exactly what we got.  Yea!   That is Cape Caution in the picture, above, and you can see just how nice the weather was for us.   To the side here, is PredictWind's report.   The color code at the very bottom represents wind speed.   Blue, green, and even yellow are great.  Orange, Red, and darker are not good at all!

We took the outside route to avoid the massive amount of water that comes out of the fjords around the cape when the tide is falling.   It is enough that it can really wreck havoc with the waves.   The outside route puts us about 10 miles or so out from land.

We also had a following current until about 2/3rds the way across, so we had a welcome 1-2knot push as well making for a faster crossing.

We spied some humpback whales, lots of Dahls porpoise, and a sea otter.

Here's Admiral Karen at the helm as we were rounding Cape Caution.  Our beloved Captain was mostly napping...   Hey, I'm not used to rising and shining at 0400!

We were following this tug and barge most of the way across.  Looks like a ranger station or equivalent going to a new home.  Note: they are proudly flying their Canadian flag!

Here we are entering Fitzhugh Sound at the north end of Queen Charlotte Strait (after rounding Cape Caution).   Once inside the protection of the outer islands, the ocean swells (waves) completely disappeared.

Just before our evening's anchorage, we passed the lighthouse at Addenbroke Island.

And here we are safely tucked in at Green Island Anchorage.  Only two other boats in here with us.  This small anchorage will only hold 4-5 boats total as it is rather small and tight, which makes it one of my favorite anchorages along the NW Canadian Coast.

Tomorrow's and the next week's forecast calls for rain every day.  So, we are enjoying our bit of sun while we've got it.

Next is game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Oilers and the Panthers.  All to be accompanied by salad, spaghetti Bolognese, and a yet to be selected red wine.
