Repair & Chores

This cracked me up.   Simple mind.   BTW, Simple Minds was another great musical group from the late 80's.

This is the area we are cruising this summer.   Specifically, we want to explore the area around Sitka, AK.   In addition, if the weather is favorable, and we are sufficiently gutsy - we want to come south on the outside (west side) of Vancouver Island.   That's open North Pacific water and the coastline of Vancouver Island is supposed to be spectacular and seldom visited.   We will be back in Anacortes by September 1.

For reference, last year, we travelled from Anacortes to as far north as Glacier Bay and Skagway.   We explored the Inside Passage from Juneau, to Petersburg, to Wrangell, and to Ketchikan.   We visited Endicott Arm and Tracy Arm seeing many tidewater glaciers.

Today, we sit in Campbell River BC.   While we are awaiting favorable weather so we can motor up Johnstone Strait, we figured we might as well get some boat work done (in addition to work work).

Over the last few days, we have:

  - Repaired the port pilothouse door lock bezel
  - Cleaned & rinsed the bilges
  - Removed more of defunct built-in vacuum system
  - Replaced the batteries in the large ship's clock (easy task, but figuring it out was not)
  - Repaired the galley fridge door
  - Added water to our freshwater storage tanks
  - Fixed one drawer to keep it from opening at undesirable moments
  - Cleaned the Engine Room
  - Checked the engine oil, belts, hoses, coolant, etc.  All good!
  - Did laundry
  - Provisioned for the duration of our time in Canada
  - Watched 2 Stanley Cup finals between the Oilers & Panthers (Panthers won both games!)

OK, that last items wasn't really a chore...

That's a picture of us at Moxies tonight in Campbell River watching the game in the background.   How odd, I think we were the only ones rooting and cheering for the Panthers...  Fortunately, all the locals seemed to be OK with just another misguided hockey fan.

Earlier yesterday we went to the local Canadian Tire store.  Canadian Tire is like an Ace Hardware mega-big-box store on steroids.   I could spend hours there...

Last night's dinner, courtesy of Master Chef (Halo's got nothing on Karen - right, Ross?  James?   Careful...) was Ginger Shoyu Gyoza Soup and it was outstanding, particularly when paired with the Lang & Reed 2017 Two Fourteen Cab Franc (see picture, below).

Yummy wine!

In spite of this eating and drinking I'm down to 173 as of this morning, that's 22lbs gone in about 2 months!   About 10lbs more to go to get to my new target...

晚安
