4th on the 5th?
Here is a video of last night's (yup, 7/5, not 7/4) fireworks display. The pyrotechnics were launched from near the John O'Connell bridge that connects Sitka to the airport, which is on a different island. We were about a quarter mile away in Eliason Harbor; not a bad place for us to be... For a reason unbeknownst to me, Sitkan's hold their Independence Day fireworks celebration on 7/5 rather than 7/4. Maybe it took an extra day for the news to reach Alaska in 1776? Think about that for a minute.
The fireworks ran from 11:30pm to about 12:05am. While it was very difficult to stay up that late, it was worth it, particularly from our vantage point where we got to see the fireworks and their reflections in the still waters of the marina.
Before fireworks, we had a mini-party aboard Blue Redd. It was taco night!Jerry & Jenni from Forever Young, were only docked a few fingers away from us and then Dean and Theresa from Salt Heart, (not pictured) stopped by too. We know all these great people from the Selene Owners Association and Rendezvous.
Gotta go to bed. Zzzz you all...
