In too Deep (or not)...
A view out aft looking at our wake in Krestof Sound.Captain Bill in command (or so he thinks). Actually, the girls were upstairs on the flybridge and they were really driving. Don't tell Bill.Today, we head to Deep Bay on Chichagof Island, just passed Serguis Narrows. We had to be at the narrows at 1336 (1:36pm) +- 30 minutes for slack water. The currents here can run up to 7 knots here and make some tremendous waves, eddies, and overfalls. Not something we wanted to experience. We passed through here at 1341 (1:41 pm)!Whale Ho! A solitary humpback, right in front of the boat in Kakul Narrows. We had to slow down so we didn't run over him.
We pulled into Deep Bay and anchored way out in the middle as the shore shelves and is very shallow way out into the bay. As I type this, we have 1.9' under the keel at the moment. When we anchored, we had about 20' under the keel. That's tides for you!
Karen spied a scraggly grizzly bear along the shore. It seemed to be moving oddly. Bill & Nicki took Roe (our dink), over for a closer look. It's left hind leg is damaged and he's dragging it around. The white on its leg in the picture is either a gash or bone. We didn't get close enough to find out. We did report him to Sitka Fish & Game. And then it was fishing time for Bill & Nicki.Unfortunately, no fish were harmed today.
A typical 30-minute (3-hour) job...
It worked! We can now make water!!! Yea! Freedom from the dock.
My thanks to Jason & James of Yacht Tech and Nick from SpotZero for their patience and remote phone support (and the replacement pump).
Our intrepid and unsuccessful fisherman hard at work trolling for the elusive salmon. So, we had spaghetti Bolognese for dinner! I love Karen's Bolognese; I like salmon better, but not tonight.I paired that with a Long Cellars 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Have I mentioned that Long Cellars makes great wine??? Maybe I should be on their payroll!
And we were treated to a lovely sunset this evening at 2132 (9:32pm). It will stay light for another hour.Another day in paradise. Buona Notte...
