Wandering Aimlessly

Wednesday night from our slip in Ketchikan.   We are looking NNW about 2200 (10:00pm).

We spent the day wandering around Ketchikan and posed for this selfie at Eagle Park, about the middle of the tourist area along the wharfs where the cruise ships dock.

These cruise ships are massive.   On Wednesday, there were four in downtown alone.   Sometimes there are five plus a few more up in Ward Cove.  On those days, the population more than doubles and overwhelms the downtown area.

We ended up at the Cape Fox Lodge for lunch.  This is a photo of the Quantum of the Seas from the bluff overlooking downtown and where the Cape Fox Lodge sits.   This one ship looks bigger than Ketchikan!

While we hiked up to the Lodge, we rode the funicular down.   A silly moment with Ross & me.
A view of the salmon falls and fish ladder in downtown Ketchikan.   I have no idea how those salmon can swim up the falls, but we watched them do it.   Amazing.

There was a lot more water in here this year compared to last year.

Marc and Tammy Wever joined us for extended Appy-Hour aboard Blue Redd.   If you recall from the blog of our northbound visit to Ketchikan, we met Marc downtown as he was attempting to get some riders for his son's tour service, Wildview Alaska Tours.   Anyway, we kid-of hit it off, so we asked them to join us.   I've never seen three hours go by so quickly.   What great people.   I look forward to connecting next year!

If you are ever in Ketchikan and need something to do, I highly recommend Wildview Alaska Tours.   Marc said he would not charge you extra for being associated with me!   What a deal.

Late evening at the Bar Harbor South Marina in Ketchikan.

Good Night.

  2. We saw a few brown bears around Baranof Island, but not many elsewhere. Last year, we only saw black bears, and they were mostly closer to the Wrangell area.
