Dodging Cruise Ships
This is the view from our slip out into the channel. Just in front of the little yellow duck boat was a humpback whale. Really, I swear it was there! Sometimes, they are just camera shy!
Today was a maintenance day around Blue Redd. I worked with the Jamie Painter at Southeast Diesel to change my engine oil & filters & look at a few other things. It's been 210.8 hours since the last change when we started the season on fresh oil back in May. The engine schedule is for every 250 hours, and I'd rather have done that work here than somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, BC. I'll change it again this Fall back in Anacortes.
We rode the ferry across the channel to get to the airport to pickup Ross. The ferry scooted behind this Holland America cruise ship. And in front of this Princess cruise ship. Cameras always distort distance. I'd estimate the distance between these two ships was about 1/2 mile. We went between them. Not a big deal, just cool. This channel, called Tongass Narrows, is only 1/4 mile across too. The currents can move through here at about 4 knots which is enough to make slow boating a challenge.
And we found Ross in Baggage Claim. This picture is of our ferry ride back from the airport to Ketchikan. It was Mex night again! Yea! Pulled pork and black bean tacos. So yummy! No booze either!
Pretty pics! Great job changing the oil/filters, too! How nice that Ross is joining you! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have Ross aboard. As a fellow 100Ton Master Mariner, I am quite comfortable having Ross drive. Unfortunately, when Ross is aboard, I don't get to drive much!
