First Salmon of the Season!

Sunset at 10:01 pm tonight in Takatz Bay, Baranof Island, Alaska.

Today, we put on some miles, leaving Deep Bay before the tide ran out and we would be aground.  We had 3' under us and the tide would be dropping another 6'.   So, that meant departing at 0715 this morning.  Hmmm.

55 miles to go to get to Takatz Bay.   In this picture we are motoring north-ish at 7.6 knots in Peril Strait.   What a great name.   No peril today though, just beautiful calm water and blue skies.
Where Peril Strait meets Chatham Strait off in the distance.
The excitement was too much for Bill.   It was a good day for a nap.
I tried out the newly repair watermaker.   We made about 75 gallons in a few hours today!   Yea!
We stopped in Waterfall Cove to see the ... waterfall.
Bill & Nicki took the opportunity to drop the hooks in.   I turned-off the engine and just drifted slowly around the bay to the roar of the waterfall.

We continued to fish as we headed south along the west coast of Baranof Island to Takatz Bay.   Nicki caught our first salmon of the season!   Dinner!!!!

And a few pictures of this lovely anchorage for your eyeball's pleasure.

This one is from the entrance to the bay.

Bill is fileting the salmon (with a dull knife) and doing a very commendable job of it.
I prepared it in a simple lemon, olive oil, pepper, and salt marinade (for 5 minutes, you don't want to go too long with fresh fish).   Then onto the grill (rare to medium-rare) and our plates, accompanied by simple rice and broccoli.   And a spinach-tomato salad.   I paired that with a lighter style 2019 Barolo from Cascina Adelaide.
A few more pictures of Takatz Bay.

On to Read Island off of Frederick Sound by Petersburg tomorrow.   59 miles to cover.   We will depart about 0800 in the morning.

Off to bed for us.  Good Night...
