Shift Change...

Our friends, Bill & Nicki joined us Saturday afternoon for a week of Alaska adventure and sun!   Too bad it rained all day.  Here we are trudging to the boat in the drizzle.

The day started off well with a wonderful breakfast of waffles!

Rain, rain, go away!







A quick run to the store for supplies, back to the boat, then a hike into town in the continued drizzle.

Tourist shopping was the activity of the afternoon and looking for shoelaces for Bill's hiking boots (no luck).

Look at all these Matryoshka Dolls.  These are the nested dolls; there are about 5 to 6 nested layers.   Most of these are the same doll at each layer, but some have different dolls/expressions at each layer.

Many of these are Christmas themed, Karen is in heaven!

We dined out at the Bayview Pub in downtown Sitka.   Like a few weeks' ago, I had the elk tenderloin as did Bill.  Very tasty, but the sauce was a bit too sweet.






It's past my bedtime.   Night All...

  Playing with propane again.   My manifold was all bolted down so it cannot move.  Last year when we closed out the season it was all fine.   When we got aboard a few days ago, Karen said she smelled propane. Leaping into action, I chased the smell to the propane locker.   After much fiddling, I discovered it was both the manifold and the regulator.   The manifold fittings were all loose and if I held the flashlight at just the right angle, I could see the density waves of propane flowing out of the regulator vent.   How can this happen?    Regardless, it is now all fixed and my locker is clean (soapy water at close to 50/50 mix is a pretty good, if not goopy cleaner).   All tightened, fittings are taped with yellow teflon tape + blue PFTE compound, tightened hand-tight + 1 turn with a wrench.   So far, we haven't smelled more propane nor have we blown up. Things that broke, in chronological order (2024)…

And what we did or didn't do about it... Kabola furnace ship hot water loop, inop. ·        We never did find the fix for this.    Costica (Kabola genius) was aboard to help diagnose while we were still in Anacortes. Windlass ·        Turned out to be the breaker (Doh!).    Just closed the breaker and voi-la!    It worked. Thrusters (bow & stern).   When we moved to Lithium batteries and installed new chargers, we forgot to account for the AGMs on the thrusters, so they had no chargers.    ·        Installed AC-DC chargers (bow and stern) that run off the inverter.    Not ideal, but it was expeditious.    Woody came to Campbell River and brought two chargers and installed them – Thanks, Woody. Propane system for the gas cooktop.    We had an intermittent very low flame to no flame if multiple burners were on....
