Cape Caution to the Winds
We made it. We crossed Cape Caution today. We were geared-up and strapped down, expecting 3-5' seas on 5-7sec periods and 20knots of wind. What we got was a bit more tame. A lot more tame, actually.More like 2' seas on 7sec period. Yea for us. Our friends, on Happy Talk crossed yesterday and reported the conditions as "rumply bumpy". Not sure, but that doesn't sound good.Today started out beautifully with a nice mirror-calm reflection on the water (meaning no wind). While I pulled the anchor, Capt. Ross drove us out of the anchorage at Big Frypan bay.We were treated to a lovely sunrise at 0600 (6:00am). Here's photographic proof.
I'm working while Ross is driving. Gotta love Starlink. It isn't cheap, but there are no viable alternatives.
Port McNeill is home to some world heritage items (well, not officially...).
And more...
The lighthouse at Pulteney Point just north of Port McNeill.
This is/was the largest burl in the world. The display and little shelter that was covering it a few years ago must have burned down. You can see the black burn marks on this prized national treasure.
Off to Blind Channel Resort in the morning. That's about 72 miles to the southeast of Port McNeill. Why this matters is that Blind Channel is about the separation boundary between the blustery weather forecast on the north side and calm, warm weather that's forecast to the south. We'd rather be in calm, warm weather, all things being equal.
Good Night Everybody...
Gorgeous sunrise. Love the pics. Does this mean you aren't taking the "outside" route?
