False Creek Bridge at just past dawn...

We departed False Creek this morning just after sunrise to time the change of currents (slack) at Porlier Pass in the Gulf Islands.   We had to be there at 1100 (11:00am), dictating that we depart by no later than 0730 (7:30am).

This photo is looking back at the Tap & Barrel pub at the Granville Market in False Creek.   This area is also known as "Bridges".
We passed by this teeny mega-yacht that was anchored out in English Bay.  I think their tenders were bigger than our boat!

Out in the Strait of Georgia it did not look like this picture.  It was blowing 30 knots with 3' seas on a 2sec period from just forward of the starboard beam.  It made for a sloppy bouncy ride.   And it got my boat all salty from the continuous spray.

We pulled into Montague Harbour in the Gulf Islands just past noon.   Man, it was already crowded.  To be fair, it is a Saturday, but it sure makes you miss the largely empty anchorages in Alaska and northern BC.

We moored next to this old classic beauty.

I worked on a proposal for a client.   But more importantly, we need Mexi-cheese for our Mexi-dinner tonight.   So, we hopped into Roe for a quick trip to the marina general store, but alas, they were cheeseless.  We will have to make do with what we've got.

On the way back to Blue Redd, we spied another Selene pulling into our crowded anchorage, so we naturally stopped by to say "Hi" after they'd set their anchor.   This is Mike & Ann's boat, Crew's List.  See new friends abound!

Lotsaboats in here.   156 at last count and still more are arriving...   Happy Talk, the Eagle 53 owned by Roberta and John is here too.   They are anchored only a few boats away from us.

Wine and cheese time.   2020 Long Cellars Jamanka (Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, Merlot blend) and a lovely stinky little Epoisses (a pungent washed-rind cheese that is bathed in Marc de Bourgogne brandy).   Oh man is this good stinky brie-like cheese.
While we were cooking, a float plane rumbled on by, right next to our boat.

Enchiladas Al Pastor, avocado, salad, and refried black beans.  With jalapenos too!

Gotta love the warm weather!   We missed this all year in Alaska.
Somebody is bar-b-queing!   We can smell it wafting through the anchorage and you can see it as the haze in front of the island.
Still more boats, they keep coming!

And some sunset pictures for you.   Enjoy and Buenos Noches, Amigos!...

  1. Really lovely sunset pics. 🤩 I know the warmer weather is welcome, after the cold, grey summer Alaska gave you. ☀️😎 You won’t get a tan at that latitude, though. You’re going to be the whitest people in the neighborhood when you get back to Florida. 🤣 Speaking of which, you’ve been managing an extensive remodel from the boat! How’s it going? Contractor relationships are often difficult, and yours is a long-distance relationship on top of that! 🤞🏻 CManning

    1. Yes, we are pale white persons now.

As for the house, no change orders this way! Our relationship with the contractor is solid, not sure how we managed that, but we are confident in his ability to deliver. We made a number of decisions before we left, and we get pictures. So far, we are happy with the progress. When we return, they will be inside working to finish the interior. Perfect time to give us a chance to feel the spaces and fine-tune. Fingers crossed we like it.
