Mossy Woods, Ferns, and Fjords...

New seal pups or relatively new.   These guys were tiny.   Mom can be seen just to the left of them, but she's still in the water.   Photo courtesy of Ross.

Today was a lazy day, I mostly worked while we waited out the rain.

A typical means of transportation.   If I wasn't a boater, I'd be an airplaner?   Is that a word?

Karen went out kayaking and took a few pictures...

Isn't that water reflection cool?

Some new friends, Peggy & Steven from the Beneteau 47 Flyer stopped by to introduce themselves and say "Hi".
We are all members of the Blue Hull Club!   Here's a picture of them (above) and one of their sailboat, Flyer.
We went out for a hike to the Macdonald Island ranger station and trails.
A fern forest!   And these ferns are big.   Most of them are 5' to 6' across.

Here are some more pictures from our hike...

Intrepid photographer at work.   How grueling!
Leading the way...
There's a lot of fungus among us!
The forest floor is all roots.   The tree roots can't readily penetrate the hard granite bedrock that is just underneath the thin layer of detritus and soil.
In this picture a tree has fallen over revealing the smooth bedrock below.  No where for the roots to go, but outwards.
Our adventuresome trekkers.
I don't know the story here, but this plastic bear's head gave us a start!
We finished the hike, maybe 2Km total, and then took Roe on the scenic route back to Blue Redd.

Back aboard, it was more work for me while Karen prepared her famous Olive Chicken dish, a family favorite!   This goes over the pasta of the day, today it was penne.

This recipe was adapted and mutated from a Pottery Barn recipe and perfected over time.
And that was paired with the 2021 Reserve Cab Franc from Long Cellars.   A great wine!

And now, it's blog time to be very shortly followed by bedtime!

Tomorrow we are up at 0645 to make the Malibu rapids at low slack at 0815.   Then we are continuing southward along the "Sunshine Coast" of BC to Pender Harbour or Smuggler Cove.   We will see how we are doing once we arrive in that vicinity.

Good Night to All of You!

  1. I sure got a feeling of serenity just from looking at the photos - such beautiful and majestic geography. And, you all look pretty darn ecstatic to be there!
