No Room at the Inn...

We departed Princess Louisa Inlet in... the rain!   The good news is that rain cleans/clears the forest fire smoke from the air.

We sneaked through Malibu Rapids with a bit of a push, but nothing we couldn't handle.

Once out in Queens Reach we encountered this floating tree.   We see lots of logs, but not too many entire trees.

Here's a photo from Princess Royal Reach.
We transited through Prince of Wales Reach and then into Agamemnon Channel.   This photos is of the end of Agamemnon Channel as it intersects with Malaspina Strait.

I do not make these names up...

Oh!   We saw lots of humpback whales off of Pender Harbour in Malaspina Strait.

We were going to stop in Smuggler Cove, but it was small and crowded.   We tried to drop the anchor and stern-tie, but none of us were comfortable with the other boats and rocks pressing all around us.   So, we picked everything up and headed back out.

Looking back up the channel.   Smuggler Cove is just to the right of the narrow passage in the middle of this photo.

We turned south out of Smuggler Cove and motored past the Canadian Coast Guard station on Merry Island.   From there, it was another 20 miles to Gibsons, BC.

Just before we turned the corner and headed inland in Shoal Channel, Ross spotted this rainbow.   Can you find it?

About 3 miles up Shoal Channel on the north bank is Gibsons, BC.   I've seen a lot of public relations material on Gibsons and it looks like an interesting place to stop.   Karen had the foresight to call in for a slip.   We got the last one and it is on the outside of the commercial dock.   We are in for a wavey rolly night, but we are here.

Proof!  This is a dock you can drive on so as to transfer cargo.   The yellow-railed ramp will support a small semi tractor/trailer rig.
The HarbourMaster's office and a couple of shops on the pier.
A floating nursery!   Patty, this one's for you!   How beautiful and unexpected.
We hiked into town in search of dinner.
Town is literally just at the top of this ramp, and you can see the top of our boat peeking above it to the left - we didn't go far.

And lookie what we found!   Mex!!!

Good food, but painfully slow service.  I think we all visibly aged by the time we had dinner.

While we were waiting for a table, Ross took some pictures of some flowers.

Not to be out done, I took a flower photo too, with boats, of course.

During dinner it started to rain, so we all fast-walked back to the boat.   Merely moistened and no one melted!

Now it's laundry time for Ross's clothes.   Then we are off to bed.

Good Night...

  1. Love the floating nursery! Agamemnon Channel was named by Captain George Henry Richards in 1860 in honour of the 64-gun HMS Agamemnon - a first line-of-battle ship commanded by Horatio Nelson, for whom adjacent Nelson Island was also named. Malaspina Strait was also named by Captain Richards - in honour of Alessandro Malaspina, a Spanish naval officer who commanded an exploration ship during the Spanish exploration of the BC coast, who the Malaspina Inlet was also named after in 1792.
