Doin' the Johnstone Bash
One of my least favorite stretches of water when we are northbound. The prevailing winds and currents are southward. The winds typically howl down Johnstone Strait and today was no exception. We were lulled into a false sense of complacency as we hit Seymour Narrows close to zero current and even rounded Chatham Point without much ado.
But once we got to Race Rapids things changed for the worse. We had 45 knots of steady wind from the northwest, about 3 knots of favorable current, 6' waves on a 1.1 sec period. We got salty water everywhere!
Now, I know what a ride in a washing machine must be like. I can check that one off my bucket list! For those of you whom are interested, the boat was fine and it could take a lot more. It wasn't particularly uncomfortable, but I don't recommend it either.
Fortunately, we'd spent some time putting latches, braces, and locks on all of our cabinetry so things stayed put.
Alert Bay as we drove past on our wayto Port McNeill. Our intrepid Captain hard at work...
Fighting a wee bit of current as we pass Alert Bay. This was about 3 knots foul.
A cool old steam winch. This is a new display as it wasn't here last fall. I don't know if this was primarily used aboard a ship or for logging (or likely both).Nice display of life jackets (PDFs) on display as functional art.Town clock in the park overlooking the harbour as we took our evening stroll.

A Beautiful PNW sunset overlooking the harbour with Blue Redd's nose poking out in the middle of the picture!
Good Night All.
