Provisioning Day
Provisioning for Canada. Since we can't take many fresh goods from the US into Canada, we have to purchase them anew in Canada. No different than going into the US from Canada. Pretty obvious that the governments are really after taxation as we can buy the same brands made in the same places/same farms on either side of the border, but so be it. Follow the Money...
This afternoon, I fixed a few minor things on the boat (windscreen wipers, main freshwater filter o-ring leak, added some engine coolant, stopped the utensils from sliding around in their drawer, etc. I also had a few business meetings. An impromptu/unanticipated nap (fell asleep at the keyboard) and we will call it a day.
Because we are on a short schedule to get north, we will miss seeing our friends, Rob & Sheila. We usually find them in Comox or Campbell River. I hope we will catch-up with each other on our more leisurely return in late September.
Tomorrow, we bash up Johnstone Strait bound for Port McNeill, 87 miles to the NW. Port McNeill is near the north end of Vancouver Island and our point of departure for crossing Cape Caution on Saturday (hopefully). There is no easy or good way to do the jaunt up Johnstone Strait. The prevailing winds and currents are all against us. I just hope that the weather forecast holds true, which it did not last year. Last year, like this year, it called for about 10 knots of wind and we got 45 knots instead and the accompanying large, short period waves. Quite uncomfortable.
We shall see. We depart the dock at 0700 tomorrow morning.
