A Museum, Some Crabs, & A Lot of Beer
This is actually the exit from the Alaska State Museum in Juneau, the entrance is off to the right and not nearly as interesting looking. Here are a few photos of some interesting displays.
In this photo, I am looking at carved stone handles (the gray/green things) in the lower right corner of the photo. The display had various ones showing the working evolution from solid to something handle shaped. Unfortunately, the display did not say what these handles were attached to.
Lots of totems, boxes, baskets, and tools on display.
In the kid section they had a model sailing ship on a kraken.Big kid on the play sailing ship. Ahoy, Captain Karen!
There was a retrospective of Dorothy Grant's 40-year career in haute couture, from traditional regalia to contemporary fashion and her critical role in bringing Indigenous fashion to a world stage.

Outside of the museum near the entrance is Nimbus, a large bright green/blue abstract sculpture by artist Robert Murray.
Commissioned in the late 1970s, it is widely regarded as Alaska's most controversial work of public art.
We thought it looked reminiscent of an iceberg and thought it was fine. Apparently, others disagree.
It’s lunchtime! Right across the street from the museum is Tracy's King Crab Shack. There are two Tracy's. One downtown for cruise ship guests and the one here which is frequented by the locals. The other is fancy; this one is down-to-earth and "earthy".I did not know that King Crab came in two varieties, Red and Golden. The Red is slightly larger and meatier than the Golden. John, Susan, & Karen thought that both tasted great. I was craving shrimp, so I did not suffer and was very happy with my non-crab selection.
And there you have it.
One of the crab chefs plying his craft.Off to the Alaskan Brewing Company brewery/tasting room. We rode the free shuttle from the downtown location to the brewery.

Unfortunately, they no longer offer brewery tours (another casualty of Covid policies).
I'm taking a selfie of John taking a selfie of us all.
All but Karen agreed the Husky IPA was the best of our three-beer tasting flight. Karen liked their Ginger Ale (non-alcoholic). It actually tasted like real ginger.
John & I had the Icy Bay IPA, Husky IPA, and Excursion IPA. Susan had the Icy Bay IPA, Juneau Juice, and Excursion IPA.
Goose Dressing is named after the Spruce Goose, 24’ sailboat I helped sail from SF down to the Sea of Cortez. Goose Dressing is comprised of fresh squeezed lemons, cider vinegar, EVOO, garlic, salt, & pepper.
This was the "Last Supper" with John & Susan for tomorrow they depart to warmer climates.
At least my wine cellar will last longer now!
I'm not looking forward to not having John & Susan aboard. They are fabulous guests, good friends, fun, cerebral, and very silly. In other words, we couldn't ask for better people to share the wonders and beauty of Alaska.
Gute Nacht, Mein Freunde.
