Hangin' in Hoonah
Just a couple of local denizens hanging out at home, here in Hoonah. Bald eagles are quite frequent here, as they are over in Sitka.
We hiked out to Icy Strait Point again so Susan could pick up some cool art she had her eyes on yesterday.
On the way back to the boat, we stopped for lunch at the Icy Strait Brewing Company.
Lunch consisted of fries covered with cheese, reindeer chili, and jalapenos. Think nachos with fries rather than tortilla chips. I can confirm that this worked just fine.We also had a cheese and jalapeno stuffed giant pretzel with a cheddar dipping sauce.
This is the grocery store, hardware, and fuel store. And they are surprisingly well stocked. They don't have a lot, but they seem to have what we needed.Today, that was food. We had to provision for the 4 of us for 8 days. That's a lot of food.
The girls continued their shopping spree relieving the local artist's shops of their excess inventory while John & I carried the groceries back to Blue Redd.Go Susan!
The boys, grilling steaks. Medium Rare, please! And the fruits of our labors. Tenderloin steaks, au gratin potatoes, grilled asparagus, and salad paired with a Long Cellars Reserve Cab Franc. We swapped out the food and in with Rummykub (Rummy Cube).Tough game tonight. The table almost won tonight.
Tomorrow, we depart at 0645 (6:45am) for Glacier Bay. So, early rise, means early to bed.
Hopefully, we can get to Bartlett Cove about 1100 (11:00am), get a spot at the dock, do the orientation at noon, grab lunch at the lodge, and then get back underway by 1400 (2:00pm).
We will try to get to one of the Sandy Coves (North or South). These two coves are on the eastern side of Glacier Bay and will be about 4 more hours north of Bartlet Cove. They make a good jumping off point to explore Muir, Adams, Wachusett, and Mc Bride Inlets (and glaciers), all of which are on the eastern side of the bay.
