Smokin' Salmon in Ell Cove

Chatham Strait looking northward just east of Baranof Island.   I can assure you that it does not always look this flat and peaceful!

We had a -4 tide this morning.   "-4" means that the sea level is 4' below the level of the normal lowest low tide.

That put the shoreline only 13 yards from the boat.   We were in 31' of water, so we were fine, but it does induce some nervousness!
We took off about 1100 (11:00am) to catch the rising tide and incoming/northward current for our journey to Waterfall Cove and then Ell Cove.

Here we are northbound in Chatham Strait.  I've seen rougher pancakes; this was just beautiful.  What isn't coming through the pictures are the pink hues and tones that are playing in the clouds and their reflections on the water.

Yup, we are in Waterfall Cove.   That waterfall is listed at about 400' high.  For scale, the people in the foreground are just under 6'...

This is a chart of the area showing Ell Cove and the entrance to Waterfall Cove, just to the south.

The wide green line with the blue line at its center is our planned route.   We stayed pretty close to that.

But now you can see the shape of the cove.   Kinda like an "L".   Oh, these clever people!
This is a sideways shot of the rock wall that rings this bay.   It is nearly high tide.   The still water allowed the reflections to play cool tricks on our minds.

This photo is courtesy of Susan.  It reminded her of a Totem in Repose.
Engine Room Check!   Always have to keep an eye and ear on my engine to make sure it is running properly.

I have to visit it often, so it doesn't get lonely...

Appetizers on the flybridge.   Susan serving the smoked salmon that Allen & Ellen gave us back in Petersburg (THANK YOU!!!).   We served it with sour cream and capers on crackers.   Wow, was that tasty!
Then on to dinner.   Karen whipped up a nice PHO dish for us.   We paired that with John's new favorite wine, the Long Cellars 2022 Denner.

No sunset pictures tonight.
