A Farewell to Friends

And like that, they are gone.   We are empty nesters again.  The boat feels so quiet and lonely now.  Sheesh!   It takes us about 3 days after our guests depart to settle into our normal two-person routine.  What a grand adventure we had.  Thank you guys!

Karen & I rowed Roe over to the launch ramp in the harbor.

Remember, I still have a dead engine & water in my fuel.

Darrin from Broken Rudder, the local Tohatsu dealer was gracious enough to take my dink from the ramp to his shop.

He called with not good news.  The engine is completely inundated with water, the injectors are corroded, the fuel system needs to be completely replaced, and I have water in the oil.

I'm hoping he can rebuild it.  What an expensive lesson!
We were able to score a 1-month slip fee at Auke Bay.   But... I have to move the boat every 10 days.   We are going to be out in Denali for exactly 10 days.  I've asked for grace on 1 more day.  We will see if they grant it.

There are limited slips with 50A power (which is what we require).  I'm hoping that one such slip opens up tomorrow morning when we move the boat.

You probably can't see it in the photo, but there are green dots where some of the fingers intersect the main dock.  Those are the spots with 50A power.  There are only about a dozen of them.
This big boat is Samsara, J.K. Rowling's 290' yacht.   We are guessing that she will be here shortly as they are cleaning and stocking the boat.

Oh yeah, hanging with the ultra-wealthy. We've not met her yet, and we probably won't.  I loved reading her books (Harry Potter series) with my kids.

Halibut on the grill.  Lemon, EVOO, garlic, capers, and black pepper.   Grill it rare.
Plated and served.  Garlic & herb couscous, asparagus spears, and a romaine-tomato salad.
Here's a close up of dinner plated.  Mouthwateringly good.   Did I mention, I like a wee bit of pepper?

Thank you again to Allen & Ellen for giving us this halibut.
Getting on in the evening.   The marina is chock full of commercial fishing boats.   In many places they are rafted 3 boats deep.
Cool light reflections on the water.

In preparation for next year's visit (hint, hint), Karen & I are playing cribbage.   It was close, but she pulled off an amazing hand (16 points) and then got 17 more in the crib.   She rocketed on by me to win the game.

Good Night, My Friends.
