Opening Day in Auke Bay
Steadfast is the research ship we spotted last year at the Le Conte Glacier down by Petersburg.Today was another laundry day, cleaning, working, and pre-packing. Just in case we were missing anything, we wanted to pack to discover what it might be. So far, all is good.
Socks, check. Underwear, check. Toothbrush, check.
John & Susan should recognize this. Leftover Clam Chowda with jalapeno cornbread. We had one leftover jalapeno, so it ended up in the chowder.Spicy!
Turns out that Sunday is "Opening Day" for hatchery king salmon and a few others. Opening Day is when all the commercial fishermen are allowed by law to ply their trade. It is common to see boats rafted 3 deep here in Statter Harbor, Auke Bay.
The red topped and blue sided boats are all whale watching tour boats. So many boats, so many people and so few whales...
The view from the Harbormaster's Office. Just a sea of boats out to Samsara, J. K. Rowlings 290' mega yacht.

Tomorrow, we are off to Anchorage (by plane) and then Denali. I will not be bringing my computer. That means, no real work and likely no blog posts until we return on 7/13. I will bring my iPad so maybe - if I have connectivity...
See you all in the funny pages. Good night.
