Head's Up: 9/19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

The fog was definitely "in" this morning.   This photo was taken about noon today as we left Mackaye harbor.

Navigating through the narrow channels between the land, rocks, and ocean along the western shore of Lopez Island.   The "sea" of kelp is a dead giveaway that this is a shallow spot.

We made it Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.  This is one of my favorite stops in the San Juan Islands.
And they have the best ice cream store around.   They serve fresh Umpqua Creamery ice cream.   It is the best.

This is the real reason I like Friday Harbor so much...
And they have huckleberry, which is my favorite.   If you haven't had the opportunity to experience real huckleberries before, you should treat yourself.  They are fabulous!
Our friends, Mark & Roseanne arrived while we were ice creaming.  Their boat, Koinonia, is a Selene 60, and a stunningly beautiful example of that model too boot.  We will hang out and dine together this evening at Downriggers.

We are moored right along the float plane dock in Friday Harbor.

Dinner at Downriggers with Roseanne, Mark, Karen, & me (L to R).   Wonderful conversation over a chilly dinner.   Once the sun sets it gets nippy quickly.   Fortunately, the staff took pity on me and brought a heater to set beside our table.

A chocolate/caramel/Heath Bar slice of yumminess.  And Karen.
Tonight's view from our boat.   No wonder I really like this place.

And remember, tomorrow is a very important date.   September 19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  Don't ye forget, Aye!

  1. I hear ya’ re: Umpqua ice cream. I’m not frequently up for dessert, but I’m definitely in trouble if there’s a carton of Umpqua ice cream in the freezer. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My favorite flavors are Espresso Madness and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Irresistible! -CM
