Otterly Beautiful and Nasty
River otters. These have to be the cutest poo factories out there. They look cute and harmless, but they have a real penchant for pooing on dock lines. I have no idea as to why, but it is rather unpleasant when they do that.
These guys were frolicking on the dock maybe 20' from us when we arrived in Comox. We didn't disturb them when we docked. They probably saw us as the outhouse delivery service for all I know.
Admiral Karen, handling the docklines with skill and grace. We depart Cambell River at 0748 (7:48 am) and head to Comox, 35-ish miles to the south.Bye-bye, Campbell River. See you next Spring.
Just offshore of Comox there is an extensive reef. There is a narrow pass through the reef. You can see that on the chart in the bottom right of the photo. On the top of the photo, you can see what we see - which isn't much!
Here is a better picture. This is the photo Karen was taking when I took the prior photo. If you look closely, you can see two red channel markers. There is a third, and it is right beside us. On the shore you may notice a white dot, there is another above that (but it is nigh impossible to see). These are range markers. You line up the two range markers such that one marker is directly on top of the other and that is how you know you are "in the channel"
We made the pilgrimage to our favorite local gelato shop. I had the affogato and Karen had the Irish Creme gelato cone. We are now both fatter and happier because of it.
Rob and Sheila joined us on Blue Redd for happy hour, then we strolled up to Blackfin for dinner. Great time with great people. See you guys next year in your new boat!
As we walked back to the boat we were treated to this feasting spider. In nearly every dock light, these rather large spiders had taken up residence. They look pretty well fed.
That's a wrap. Good Night, My Friends.
