More Fishing...

Today was another day of fishing.   We went northwest of Sitka to Kalinin Bay and fished in the surrounding waters.   We (Jerry) caught a small halibut and a small rock fish.   We are not so happy to say that no fish were harmed today; they were released to spawn another day.

No fish for dinner...

We departed Sitka about 1100 this morning and motored in total fog and rain for the three hours it took to get to Kalinin Bay.   This route takes us up a couple of heavily traveled narrow channels.

Not that you can tell from this picture, but the channel is probably less than 1/4 mile wide with shoals and rocks on either side.   Not nerve-wracking, but I definitely had to pay attention.

We arrived and Jerry immediately dropped the hook to see what we could catch.   I'm not much of a fisherman, but this "sport" does afford one a lot of time to look around.   This picture is looking across Salisbury Sound to the fog enshrouded mountains that make up the north side of this inlet.

Just ahead of us is the open Gulf of Alaska.

Fortunately, the winds and swells were from the south, so we were pretty sheltered as our fishing and Kalinin Bay are all on the south shore.

Here's I'm adjusting the depth sounder/fish finder to see if I can find some fish.   It's kind of false advertising to call it a "fish finder".   I have to run over the top of the fish for this to pick them up.   It doesn't find them for me...

So, dinner was Chinese Ginger Spring Onion Chicken.  Not fish...   I picked up this dish and recipe from the London school of Wok (Cookery Classes in London from an Award Winning Cookery School | School of Wok).   Great resource for learning about how to cook in various Asian styles.
