New Territory

Departing Prince Rupert at 0820.   More of that shiny orb thing today.

We call these aircraft carriers.   Logs with birds.   This one is particularly popular with the fowl as there are usually only one or two birds atop them.

We do not want to hit one of these.

We were just there!   Looking north, back up Petrel Channel.

We have not been down this channel; this is all new for us.  This channel and the ones for the next week are semi-outside as versus the inside channel we've done before.

It may have been a waterfall, but it's dry at the moment.

Note the signs of clearcutting above.  That was maybe 5-6 years ago.

More pictures from the southern end of Petrel Chanel and the "Narrows".   There was a 2.4 knot current against us as we slowed from our target speed of about 7.8knots to 5.4knots.   You can't see them well in this picture, but the white boat in front of us is Jean Marie, a Selene 47 owned by Pam & Rick (I blogged about them the night before).   Anyway, they were heading to the same Newcombe Harbour as were we.

We rounded the last bend in the channel and headed into Newcombe Harbour for the evening.

Only two other boats in here, which is unusual as we are used to being the only one.

Of course we did follow Jean Marie here (by coincidence).   They left Prince Rupert an hour before we did and we ended-up at the same anchorage about 5 minutes apart.   As our boat is 10' longer, we go just a wee bit faster than they do at hull speed (1.2 * Sq Root of the waterline length).
Good Night.
